Aretha Louise Franklin (born March 25, 1942) is an American singer, songwriter and pianist. Although known for her soul recordings and referred to as the The Queen of Soul, Franklin is adept at jazz, blues, R&B and gospel music. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Franklin No. 1 on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time.

Rumors of her death began flooding the site on Dec. 27, and though it is true she recently underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer, there has been no update on her condition since she told Jet magazine she was on the mend.

So let's cut out the morbid hashtags, wish her a quick recovery from her operation and try to make it to 2011 without losing any more greats.
