In 1980, Columbia Masterworks released the"Glenn Gould Silver Jubilee Album," a monumental double-albumcelebrating the artist's quarter century of the recording for thelabel. In June of that year, Don Hunstein sat with Gould for his firstphoto shoot with Gould in more than a decade. Here Hunstein capturesGould, notorious for his eccentric posture and oddly graceful physicalmovements while performing, literally defying gravity as he leansprecariously backwards in a director's chair, his body ready to springinto thin air as he pushes up on the ball of his right foot, one shoemysteriously absent.
