When U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) receives your application or petition, it mails you a “receipt notice” and processes your case in the order received by application type. The receipt notice will have important information you need to check your USCIS case status or to contact USCIS to learn your application status.


USCIS Case Status by Phone
You can call the USCIS toll-free National Customer Service Center (NCSC) for automated information and live assistance concerning visa and immigration services and USCIS case status from within the U.S., including Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Be sure to have your receipt number or A-number available, if you have received it. During your call, write down:

    * The name and/or id number of the representative
    * The date and time of the call
    * The service request referral number, if a service referral on a pending USCIS case is taken

USCIS Case Status Online
You can use your receipt number on this notice to check your USCIS case status online at My USCIS Case Status and to register for automatic USCIS case status updates by email or text message while your USCIS case is processed. You may also check visa wait times and USCIS immigration processing times for USCIS applications and petitions based on where your case is being processed.


USCIS Case Status by Phone
You can call the USCIS toll-free National Customer Service Center (NCSC) for automated information and live assistance concerning visa and immigration services and USCIS case status from within the U.S., including Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This number provides automated information only. There is no live assistance available at this number to discuss USCIS case status. If you are outside the United States and need more information concerning United States visa and immigration or would like to speak with someone regarding your USCIS case status, please contact the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
USCIS Case Status by Email to USCIS Service Center
If you contacted the USCIS National Customer Service Center to check your USCIS case status and more than 30 days have passed and you have not received a response, email the USCIS Service Center that has jurisdiction over your case. Your receipt notice will indicate EAC for the Vermont Service Center, SRC for the Texas Service Center, LIN for the Nebraska Service Center, or WAC for the California Service Center. When contacting the Service Centers by email for your USCIS case status, provide the information you wrote during your call with the USCIS National Customer Service Center:

    * The name and/or id number of the representative
    * The date and time of the call
    * The service request referral number, if a service referral on a pending USCIS case was taken

If the USCIS National Customer Service Center did not issue a service request after your call, please indicate the reason the NCSC representative did not issue the request.
