Miss America Pageant Returns to Planet Hollywood Resort

Miss America 2011 was the 86th Miss America pageant. Since the first Miss America pageant was held 90 years ago, in 1921, the Miss America Organization is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2011. It will be held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on January 15, 2011. Miss America 2010, Caressa Cameron from Virginia, will crown her successor at the end of this event. Delegates from the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will compete for the title of Miss America 2011. The pageant will broadcast live on ABC. This will be the first pageant telecast on ABC since Miss America 2005.

"We think it is only fitting that 53 of the most beautiful and talented girls on the planet should be here at Planet Hollywood," said Robert Earl, Chairman, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. "We are delighted to have the Miss America Pageant return to our resort and we look forward to showcasing all that this property and Las Vegas have to offer."

Sam Haskell, III, Chairman of the Board for MAO stated, "We are thrilled to be returning to Planet Hollywood as we mark our 90th anniversary.  This year, we are so very proud to share this incredible event with our friends at Planet Hollywood and one of the finest entertainment venues of the world - Las Vegas."

The 53 Miss America contestants will sweep into town in January to begin preliminary competitions in swimsuit, talent, and evening wear.  The three nights of preliminaries will take place on January 11, 12 and 13 at Planet Hollywood's Theatre for the Performing Arts.  Tickets to the preliminaries, as well as the Miss America Pageant finals will be available to the public at www.ticketmaster.com later this year.

"Las Vegas and the Miss America Pageant have developed a great partnership and we are excited to continue the relationship," said Cathy Tull, Senior Vice President of Marketing at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).  "Las Vegas was built to host special events and we are honored to be the host destination of the 2011 Miss America Pageant.

"Planet Hollywood and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority have welcomed us from the beginning, and we are proud to partner with them.  We are truly grateful for their continued support of our program and it underscores their commitment to our scholarship program," stated Art McMaster, CEO & President of MAO.
