On Friday, tabloids were afire with stories about Laura Vikmanis, the oldest current NFL cheerleader at the age of 42. Vikmanis, a mother of two, is proud of her role and wants to be an inspiration to other women.
Vikmanis is currently a cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals and said she is pleased she can serve as an inspiration for other mothers regarding what is possible for women over the age of 40, reports Babble.com.
She is almost twice the age of most of fellow cheerleaders on the squad, but that didn’t dissuade her from trying out for the team, first at the age of 39.
According to Zap2It.com, Vikmanis told Yahoo! “I was extremely intimidated because I’m literally 20 years older than these girls.”
She joked that she’s older than most of the players as well, but noted the coach is “a little older than me.”
Vikmanis is most interested in providing her two daughters -- Lila, 14, and Alexa, 12 -- with a role model that inspires them to follow their dreams.
“I look at myself as a role model for my children to show them no matter what age or dream you have, you can work really hard and achieve it,” said Vikmanis, according to Babble.
