Medium is an American television drama series that premiered on NBC on January 3, 2005, and ended on CBS on January 21, 2011. Themed on supernatural gifts, its lead character, Allison DuBois (played by Patricia Arquette), is a medium employed as a consultant for the Phoenix, Arizona district attorney's office. Allison and her husband Joe (Jake Weber) are the parents of three daughters, all of whom inherited Allison's gift. The show was initially based on the experiences of medium Allison DuBois, who claims she has worked with law enforcement agencies across the country in criminal investigations.
Medium was created by Glenn Gordon Caron and is produced by Picturemaker Productions and Grammnet Productions in association with CBS Television Studios, originally known as Paramount Television and CBS Paramount Television.
The series aired on NBC during its first five seasons before switching to CBS, whose production division produces the show beginning with the sixth season.[1] Season 7 premiered on September 24, 2010.
On October 26, 2010, CBS ordered the seventh season to be cut from 22 to 13 episodes.[2] Both Patricia Arquette and Glenn Gordon Caron have since stated that the show has been canceled, which CBS confirmed on December 21, 2010.
Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette) is a strong-willed mother of three, a devoted wife who begins to suspect that she can talk to dead people, see the future in her dreams, and read people's thoughts. The real challenge is convincing her boss, D.A. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) -- and the other doubters in the criminal justice system -- that her psychic abilities can give them the upper hand when it comes to solving violent and horrific crimes whose mysteries often reside with those who live beyond the grave.
Sofia Vassilieva and Maria Lark also star as Ariel and Bridgette, the eldest two DuBois children. David Cubitt stars as Detective Lee Scanlon, who Allison often works with on cases.
As Allison and Joe's daughters continue to grow, their psychic abilities show more and more development, keeping the DuBois' home life busy and interesting. Through it all, Joe and Allison continue to balance their hectic home life with their professional lives -- which seem to become more and more stressful as time goes on.
