The Boston College Eagles football

The Boston College Eagles football team is the collegiate football program of Boston College. The team is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, a Division I Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A) league governed by the NCAA. Within the ACC, the Eagles are one of six teams in the Atlantic Division. Begun in 1892, Boston College was one of six "Major College" football programs in New England as designated by NCAA classifications, starting in 1938. By 1981, and for the remainder of the twentieth century, BC was New England's sole Division I-A program. It has amassed a 601-419-36 record and is 71-30-0 since the turn of the century. In 2007, the Eagles captured the ACC's Atlantic Division Championship and finished the season ranked in the AP Top 10 for the first time since 1984. They also achieved a mid-season #2 ranking, their highest since being ranked #1 in 1942
The season ended on a sour note for the Eagles who lost 20-13 to the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The difference in the game was a first quarter 72 yard punt return for a touchdown by Rishard Matthews. The BC defense played another outstanding game, holding the high-powered Nevada offense to 304 total yards and 13 points (well below their 42 ppg average). Unfortunately, the BC offense gained only 183 total yards. Chase Rettig completed 14 of 34 passes for 119 yards (0 TD, 2 INT). Andre Williams rushed for 70 yards with 30 coming on a first quarter touchdown run. Nevada ran 14 more plays than the Eagles and kept the ball for 35 minutes. The Eagles (7-6) have now lost three consecutive bowl games after winning eight in a row.
