Gallery 63 Auction Kings ..video

I wrote about Gallery 63, a local auction site in Atlanta, in March when Discovery was shooting a pilot for the network. The reality program (along the line of “Pawn Stars” or “Miami Ink”) has gotten a thumbs up for 14 episodes to air this fall and it has a new name. Originally “Auction King,” it now has the more pun-tensive name “Bidder Rivals.”

Auction Kings is a reality television series produced by Authentic Entertainment for the Discovery Channel. The series premiered on October 26, 2010 and features the auction house Gallery 63 in Atlanta, Georgia.[1] The series capitalizes on the success of the History channel’s widely successful Pawn Stars and bears a strikingly similar format;[2] the auction house employees often rely on experts to appraise items of which historical background is provided to the viewer. Sellers offer comments regarding the merchandise at hand both before and after the auction. At the second commercial break, a multiple-choice question about the auction house or the items are presented, similar to the questions on Pawn Stars.Somehow Paul Brown doesn’t look old enough OR mean enough to take the place of Pawn Star’s Old Man and Cindy Shook sure doesn’t look like Chumlee. Pawn Stars works not because of the premise but because of those two ‘characters’.
